  • Blue Opal is coming back to me

Blue Opal is coming back to me

With my passport not in my possession, getting Blue Opal back to Ireland is going to be difficult. A bit of searching online, and some quotes, and I’ve ended up contracting Halcyon to move her from Pwllheli to Dun Laoghaire for me. It’ll be nice to have my boat back; she should be here on…

  • State of the house

    State of the house

Things are better at this point; the flashing is looking good on the party wall, the walls in the living room are drying, and we’re about at the stage where the radiators can be attached. The front area of the house is a lot neater now that the big pile has been removed via a…

  • Skimming underway

    Skimming underway

Over the last week or so, the electrician has been taking up floorboards and getting holes knocked into walls; a standard skip arrived, got filled, and was removed; the builder finished boarding out the ceiling under the back bedroom, and has started skimming. On this morning’s visit to the house, I found the electrician had left a “gift” for me. I think it’s taken from the bathroom, as it’s the only location I can think that had this type of light fixture. The black plastic cap/strain relief is slagged. The chocolate block/terminal block is completely melted, with the…

  • Tanked walls, new joists.. what goes wrong next?

Tanked walls, new joists.. what goes wrong next?

The tradesmen have made really good progress today. The boxing for the stairwell is completed, the pipes have been run through it, ready for skinning over, the new joists are in place, the porch walls have been tanked, and the back patio is half-laid. You’d almost think this house had stopped causing problems.
