Pannenkoeken

My stay in Den Haag was fairly uneventful – slept for a fair bit of it, and read 5 or 6 of the Moorcock books that Marco owns. We did hit up a small cafe called Babbelen, a few minutes from Den Haag Centraal Station, and I had a most excellent pancake (pannenkoeken – imagine a crepe like pancake, over a foot in diameter [and yes, that's stroup (syrup) on a ham and cheese pancake]), and a place called La Place Mangerie, which served a very good mushroom soup. Managed to watch Blade Runner, finally. I’d borrowed a copy from a friend, but it’s region 1 and my DVD player doesn’t like anything that isn’t region 2 :( Is Deckard a replicant? We also managed to visit Madurodam, a 1:25 scale replica park of various parts of the Netherlands, including some bridges, trains, famous heritage buildings etc. If you like modelling at all, Madurodam is a very interesting place.

Madurodam

Tuesday morning, on the way out of Den Haag CS, I saw a rather neat truck design. Imagine a ’standard’ lorry, like the ones used to move bread, clothes etc. Now peel the roof forwards so that the entire top of the cargo area is open to the sky. Very neat design – the crane was lifting items right out of the back with ease.
