An adventure in the Peak District

Back down from High Edge, and the ramblers were gone - but they didn’t pass me up at High Edge, so they must have taken another of the public pathways that seem to riddle most of England. Unfortunately, the pathways never seem to go where I want to be, so some photos I’d love to take can’t be, otherwise I’d be trespassing. South through Glutton Bridge, stopping to admire a strangely shaped bit of land, and then onwards through Longnor. At Longnor, I decided to try and reach the River Manifold, in the hope of getting some photos of the water. I cut across at Brund, where the river flowed past a house that might have been a mill or workhouse at some point. The river wasn’t very photogenic at this point though, so I continued on.

I ended up zig-zagging across the Manifold at several points, but I never found a spot where I could get out and enjoy the sunshine and the water together. I somehow ended up in Ford Wetley, which actually has a cobblestone ford across the River Hamps - it’s a pity there was nowhere to stop, it might have made for a very nifty photograph. I picked up the A523 at Waterhouses, and travelled north-west back to the B5053, and then headed for Froghall.
